Bhubaneswar, Sept 23: A man allegedly tried to kill his wife by setting her on fire. The incident was reported from Jagannath Nagar in Baramunda area of Bhubaneswar city late at night on Thursday. The victim is Pravati Pradhan who is now struggling with her life in the SCB hospital. Sources said that one Jagannath Pradhan and his wife Pravati Pradhan had a marital discord. Thereafter they were staying separately after divorce, some days ago. However, Jagannath who is an auto-rickshaw driver used to visit Pravati’s home. On Thursday, he entered into Pravati's house in an inebriated state and beat her up in front of their daughter. He reportedly hurled abuses at Pravati and threatened to kill the daughter. As they resisted him, he tried to char his wife to death by lighting a gas cylinder. Pravati sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital. She was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.
