Man hacks father to death over property dispute in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal, May 24: A man allegedly hacked his father to death with a sharp-edged weapon over a property dispute at Dangapal village under Kankadahad police limits in the district last night, police said today. The deceased has been identified as Sanatan Mahunta, father of the accused Tapan Mahunta. According to sources, Tapan has been demanding his share from his father’s property, which his father denied. Irate over the incident, Tapan attacked Sanatan last night while he was asleep and killed him. Tapan’s sister also sustained minor injuries when she tried to oppose her brother from attacking her father. However, the accused managed to escape from the spot after executing the crime. Later, the police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
