Sambalpur, Oct 1: A special POCSO court in Sambalpur today sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering an eight-year-old girl in in Jamankira area in 2022.
The court awarded the death penalty to Prashant Baghar guilty of raping and killing a minor girl in his village at Kasada under Jamankira police limits.
The court also directed Baghar to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
Prashant had raped the minor girl and later hacked her to death. He had roamed around his village with her severed head.
The villagers captured and tied him up while he was trying to escape.
Later, Jamankira police arrested him.
