Nischintakoili, Mar 26: A man hanged self to death last night allegedly being stressed by the harassment of police at Naigua village under Bhadreswar police outpost in Cuttack district, police said today.
The deceased has been identified as Kalakar Sahoo, son of Birabara Sahoo of the same village.
A friend of Kalakar’s minor daughter went missing from her residence on March 19 based on which the Bhadreswar outpost police started an investigation. During the investigation it was found that the minor missing girl usually talks with a youth in Kendrapara using Kalakar’s phone following which the police officials took Kalakar and his minor daughter to Kendrapada for further investigation last Wednesday.
On Thursday, a constable of Bhadreswar outpost again went to Kalakar’s house to take him and his daughter to the police station for investigation. When his wife informed them about her husband and daughter being not present at home, the constable allegedly misbehaved with her and threatened her to put her family behind the bars.
Kalakar became mentally unstable after coming to know about the incident and took the extreme step in pressure, alleged her wife Swarnalata. She also claimed that the missing minor girl surrendered herself at Bhadreswar outpost yesterday and confessed that she left her house after being assaulted by her parents to the police.
However, the IIC of Mahanga Police station has refuted all the allegations.
