
Sambalpur, Sep 19: A 25-year-old man was arrested on Friday in Odisha’s Sambalpur district for allegedly sexually assaulting and killing a cow, police said.
The accused, identified as Sunil Nag, had been working as a tractor driver in the Ainthapali area. According to police sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday night in Bhalupali village, located on the outskirts of Sambalpur town under Ainthapali police station limits.
Nag, a resident of Thakur Niktimal village under Kuchinda police jurisdiction, reportedly lured a stray cow to the gate of a residential property, tied it with a towel, and committed the assault. The animal later succumbed to its injuries.
The crime came to light after the entire incident was captured on CCTV installed outside the residence. The house owner lodged a written complaint with the local police, which led to the swift identification and arrest of the accused late Thursday night.
Based on the evidence, a case has been registered under BNS and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The disturbing nature of the incident has sparked widespread outrage in the local community, with residents calling for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws.
