So the poll fever has gripped five states and West Bengal, apparently, appears to be the most focused one. The BJP has been using its all political fire powers to bash the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress to finish.
As it appears, West Bengal poll is going to be one of the most discussed topics where the incumbent chief minister Mamata, now positioned like a dart board, where she has to resist the attacks from three sides.
The BJP has been active, with all its cylinders blasted, soon after the Bihar assembly polls and that sudden ambush might have caught Mamata bit unaware as she would not have expected such an abrupt warming up exercise so soon.
She has to single handedly take on the political fire power of the union home minister Amit Shah, Narendra Modi and J P Nadda where Shah ,so far, emerged as leading the slugfest.
TMC Plays Up Lord Jagannath Card
No matter who allies with whom or who plays political footsie in WB, but the situation has made Mamata falling back to the religious virtues being the crutch to walk with. Taking a departure from being an agonist, as she had made many to believe sometime back, now she has made a significant shift to Lord Jagannath of Puri.
Knowing well the humongous emotion that the Benaglis attach to the Lord, she might have chosen this as a lifebuoy to negotiate the headwinds generated by the slogan of ‘Jai Sriram’ that the saffron camp plans to trample her bid for a 5th time comeback.
It was reported that she organized a ‘pooja’ of the Puri Lord at her residence with priests all the way from Puri went there and performed the pooja. That must be an inherent boost she plans to create as a counter to the BJP juggernaut.
The Left has been floundering in WB since last one decade almost and so also the Congress reduced to a breathless one in need of resuscitation. But that cannot allow the TMC the complacency when the BJP, with its high-octain campaign plans to unseat her, she badly needs some empathy from the grassroot voters only.
Mamata Remains A Dart Board
On one side is the saffron blitzkrieg and on the other is the mellowed down Left with a reduced cadre base. Political analysts hold the view that ” virtually, Mamata must brace up to face the contests from all the above but, if Assauddin Owassi succeeds to do the way he did in Bihar, it must worry Mamata ” said Arindam Chakroborty senior journalist and political analyst.
Although the BJP has not named any chief ministerial candidate, obviously it has to go heavily banking on the Modi charisma. ” The BJP has to counter a campaign built around Mamata and hammer at her failures as the only way to contest the brand Mamata” adds Chakroborty.
Meanwhile Owassi – led outfit may aggressively woo the Muslim voters and that must be an interesting situation that, if Owassi nets a good number of seats, it would be a suspense as what would be the post poll chemistry. Because in politics nobody is untouchable!
