Watching debates in leading television channels on maintaining a non-communal stance by the political parties and asking for votes, is oxymoronic, in fact .
Divisions created through the recent discourses in the campaigns for the five assemblies in general and in the case of West Bengal in specific , all ethics have been thrown to the winds, no matter which political party is on the floors.
Even the apex court had the ruling and so does the Election Commission of India that, that asking for votes on religious grounds is a complete violation of the code of conducts.
EC’s Slumber of Eminence !
A report reads that the Election Commission has served a notice to the WB chief minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly making an appeal for votes on communal lines.
It appears like running with the hare and hunting with the hound by the EC.When the entire gamut of the religious overtones in the campaigns have shockingly resonated from day one, how the EC reacted in hindsight after Mamata made that appeal, the other day, asking Muslims , tribal , and naming others not to be swayed away by the alleged communal lines that her rivals tried to make such divides ?
Politics Through Divides
Divide and rule was something that was loathed by India which the Britishers made as a tool through out their continuance in India .
And that fissure made such a lasting impact that, instead of shunning such a design , willingly or otherwise, we almostake perpetuated that, like a legacy . Thus opening the floodgates for politics of appeasement .
Hypocrisy Of Secularism
In which book on secularism mandates the ‘netas’ to start a campaign speech with the chants of ‘Jai Sri Ram’ or chanting of hymns of ‘Godess Kali’ or Durga or lord Jagannath ?
Surprisingly, that’s how the initial undertones of the campaigns in WB were kicked off. Why the EC got up so late from its slumber !
People are always immune to mass emotion generated through such sectarian lines. Call it religious divide or communal approach but, ultimately votes those remain paramount behind such organised mania.
Even in the past years there were umpteen attempts by the minority outfits to taking to hate speeches all over the country during elections or no elections .
Religious hysteria is used deliberately to foment into the psyche of people on the ground to create divides those never gets bridged for generations .
It’s a kind of indoctrination that the political community tries to brew out of common men’s vulnerability .
What is shockingly unacceptable that the mainstream media appears to be in a huge dillema over either to be objective or toe a perticular ideology.
