Malkangiri, July 1: In a startling case of alleged fraud, three living sisters were reportedly declared dead in government records by their own brothers to claim their share of compensation for land acquired for the Jeypore–Malkangiri railway project.
The incident has been reported from Madakamiguda village under Mathili block in Malkangiri district. The alleged irregularity came to light during the land acquisition process in Mundaguda mouza, where compensation was being disbursed to affected landowners.
According to the complainants, the brothers collected the entire compensation amount after allegedly getting official records altered to show their sisters—Subhadra Nayak, Damuni Nayak and Uddhab Nayak—as deceased.
The sisters, who claim they were unaware of the manipulation, said they learnt about it only after the compensation had already been disbursed. They have since approached several government offices, including the Block office, Tahasil office and the Revenue Inspector (RI) office, seeking justice. However, after failing to receive any relief, they submitted a complaint to the Sub-Collector of Malkangiri.
The sisters have accused their brothers of fraudulently usurping their rightful share of the land compensation. They have demanded a fair investigation into the alleged manipulation of government records and immediate payment of the compensation due to them.
The district administration is yet to issue an official statement on the allegations.
