Keonjhar, Sept 8: Mahanta community of Nalapanga village under Harichandanpur block of Keonjhar district gheraoed the Tahasil office and staged a protest over a land issue on Wednesday.

According to the reports, 35 Mhanata families worked on ancestral land covering 70 acres. However, the Odisha government later chose to offer a 100-acres of land to an indigenous tribe known as the Juanga Community.

There were some issues at the time of the land settlement, and as a result, a rivalry brewed between these two communities during the past 6 years over this property issue.

Due to a lack of agreement between the two communities, the case has gone to court.

Since 2018, the Revenue Divisional Commissioner, western division, has directed the Keonjhar district administration to grant 70 acres of land to the Mahanta community and 100 acres of land to the Juanga community.

However, the district administration took no action, and tensions between the two groups escalated day by the day.

The negligence of the district administration forced the Mahanta community to protest against the matter.
