Kendrapara, Oct 10: Vigilance officials have arrested Siba Mallick, an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer and Tahsildar of Mahakalapada, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income by nearly 190%.
Following an investigation, the Vigilance team discovered that Mallick owned assets grossly exceeding his lawful earnings. These included four buildings, seven valuable plots, bank deposits amounting to ₹18 lakh, and ₹1.55 lakh in cash. Mallick reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the source of these assets.
A case has been registered against Mallick and his spouse under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(b)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
This arrest comes shortly after a previous trap case registered on September 23, 2025, where Mallick was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a complainant. The bribe was allegedly demanded to facilitate the eviction of an illegal structure obstructing access to the complainant’s residence on government land.
Following the earlier trap, simultaneous raids at multiple premises linked to Mallick unearthed the disproportionate assets, ultimately leading to his arrest.
Authorities stated that the Vigilance Directorate continues to strengthen anti-corruption efforts across the state to uphold transparency and accountability in public service
