Bhubaneswar: Normal life has been disrupted in the western Odisha as the Central Action Committee (CAC) of lawyers’ associations has begun holding a two-day ‘Mahabandh’ (massive stir) this morning to press for establishment of a permanent High Court bench in the region.
Schools, colleges, shops and other business institutions have remained closed since morning. Similarly, vehicular movement has been disrupted. Rail services have also been hit as activists have stopped trains at different places, according to reports.
The strike will continue to be held on Friday also.
Notably, lawyers’ cease-work agitation has almost paralysed the judicial delivery system since September 5. Still, lawyers are unsure of establishment of a permanent High Court Bench in the region. The issue had also rocked the State Assembly recently.
General public and all political parties and social organisations have extended support to the lawyers’ agitation.
