Police in Madhya Pradesh registered a serious criminal case after a terrifying stunt saw a crane lift a car 40 feet into the air before it exploded during a Muharram procession. Video footage from the Badnagar area of Ujjain district captured the dangerous display. Two youths waved red flags from the suspended vehicle just before smoke, sparks, and shattered glass burst from the cabin over innocent bystanders.
Akhada Rivalry Turned Dangerous
Officers allege this reckless act stemmed from a fierce competition among local akhada groups striving to generate viral internet content. Traditional akhada performances in this region historically featured safe displays of martial arts, but modern groups increasingly risk public safety to chase social media clout. Organisers from the Shere Adan Akhada reportedly loaded rocket-style firecrackers inside the sealed car. Gas built up rapidly within the cabin, blowing out the windows and creating a dramatic blast effect above the densely packed street.
Law Enforcement Responds Swiftly
Assistant Superintendent of Police Karan Deep Singh confirmed that authorities explicitly prohibited such hazardous activities. Officials had only granted permission for a peaceful religious march. Consequently, law enforcement filed an FIR against crane owner Gopal Mali and organisers Shoaib Khan, Talim Khan, and Zahid Khan under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators discovered this was not an isolated event. Several clips on local Instagram accounts showcase similar risky behaviour from competing groups. Authorities continue to thoroughly investigate the incident to ensure no further public safety violations occur.
