Bhubaneswar, July 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that a low-pressure area has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and its neighboring areas.
Under its influence, several parts of Odisha, especially North Odisha regions, are likely to experience heavy rainfall in the coming days, the weather department added.
According to the Met Department, the low-pressure area formed under the influence of yesterday's upper air cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha.
The IMD stated that the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestward with height. It is expected to move slowly west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh over the next two to three days.
In the past 24 hours, Odisha witnessed very heavy rainfall with eight places getting more than 200 mm of rain. Deogaon in Jharsuguda district recorded the highest rainfall at 306 mm. Bamara in Sambalpur got 285.4 mm, and Laikera received 270.4 mm. Other areas with heavy rain include Kirmera with 255.3 mm, Kolabira and Kuchinda with 233 mm each, Jharsuguda with 205.2 mm, and Sundergarh with 207.8 mm.
