Lightning strikes claim three lives in Odisha in separate place

Odisha witnessed a tragic day on Friday as lightning strikes in separate incidents claimed the lives of three individuals, including a seven-year-old boy, and left three others injured across different districts.

Bhubaneswar, May 31: Odisha witnessed a tragic day on Friday as lightning strikes in separate incidents claimed the lives of three individuals, including a seven-year-old boy, and left three others injured across different districts.

In the first incident, a young man identified as Shiba Paika lost his life after being struck by lightning in Bataradapalli village under Chandapur Panchayat in Chikiti Block of Ganjam district.

According to reports, he was out grazing goats when the lightning struck.

Three other persons, who were also in the vicinity grazing goats, sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

In a separate case in Balasore district, an elderly man succumbed to injuries after being struck by lightning near Kantabania under Khaira police limits in the Soro area. The man was reportedly returning home on a bicycle from Patarajpur haat when he was hit. He was rushed to Khaira Hospital in critical condition but was declared dead upon arrival by doctors.

The third and most heart-wrenching incident occurred in Kumudia village under Ranga Panchayat in Gumma Block of Gajapati district, where a seven-year-old boy, identified as Amit Gamanga, died after being struck by lightning.

According to family sources, the child was washing himself in the backyard of his house after relieving himself when the lightning struck, killing him on the spot.
