Bhubaneswar, July 7: The launch of the Kruti Koraput Coffee pack, alongside the introduction of the Puri–Koraput Express, marks a significant step in Odisha's efforts to promote inclusive growth by combining tribal entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture, and improved connectivity.
Grown in the lush Eastern Ghats of Koraput, the region's renowned shade-grown Arabica coffee is cultivated by tribal farmers using environmentally sustainable farming practices. Known for its distinctive chocolate and nutty flavour notes, Koraput Coffee has earned national recognition, establishing the district as an emerging hub for specialty coffee.
The coffee initiative has evolved into a successful livelihood model, providing sustainable income opportunities to thousands of tribal farmers, particularly women, who are actively involved in cultivation, processing, packaging and marketing. Beyond economic empowerment, the initiative also supports biodiversity conservation across the ecologically rich Eastern Ghats.
Further strengthening the region's development is the launch of the Puri–Koraput Express, which is expected to significantly improve rail connectivity between Koraput and major commercial centres in Odisha. Enhanced transportation infrastructure will enable easier movement of agricultural and value-added products, including Koraput Coffee, while also boosting tourism and expanding market access for local producers.
The improved rail link is expected to reduce logistical challenges, encourage trade and create new opportunities for tribal entrepreneurs by connecting them more efficiently with domestic and national markets.
Together, the Kruti Koraput Coffee initiative and the Puri–Koraput Express underscore Odisha's development model, where investments in infrastructure complement grassroots enterprise. The twin initiatives highlight how sustainable agriculture, tribal empowerment and enhanced connectivity can work together to drive balanced economic growth while bringing the unique products of Odisha's tribal heartland to a wider audience.
