KVK Khordha launches farmers field school for empowering livestock farmers

Balipatna ,Mar 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khordha launched Livestock Farmer Field School (LFFS) at Danapada village under Balipatna block in Khordha district. The LFFS envisages at empowering over 3,000 farmers in 15 nearby villages in adopting livestock farming technologies. Farmer Field School is a school without walls for improving the decision-making capacity of the farmers and facilitate cross learning opportunities. The school was inaugurated by Padma Sri Batakrushna Sahoo, a leading fish farmer in Khordha district. Dr. Saroj Kumaer Swain, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar appreciated the efforts made by KVK-Khordha for helping the farmers for adopting scientific farming systems. He also informed thaT the FFS piloted by ICAR-CIFA in Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh have become extremely popular. Dr. Swain felicitated Sumati Tripathy, the operator farmer for adopting scientific practices and being the role model for the dairy farming community. Dr. Shiba Shankar Giri, Head of KVK, Khordha took the lead in establishing Livestock Farmers Field School. Dr. Giri appreciated the farmers for their livestock farming activities and cooperation with the KVK. Among others, Dr. B.K. Banja, SMS (Livestock), KVK-Khordha, Ajay Kumar Dash, Surendra Singh, Pragyan Ranjan Sahoo and Sukanti Behera, were present at the function. About 200 farm women and farmers attended the programme maintaining COVID-19 guidelines.
