Kotia dispute: Odisha govt seeks legal advice from former SC Judge

Bhubaneswar, Mar 3: Odisha government is set to take legal assistance of Justice Anang Patnaik, retired Justice of the Supreme Court, over the Kotia border dispute. The Revenue Secretary has written a letter to the Collector, Koraput today to meet Justice Patnaik with all relevant documents on Kotia. As per the advice of the state's Advocate General, Ashok Parija the revenue department is going to take guidance from Justice Patnaik. The letter read, Justice Patnaik will be requested to guide the government with essential legal tools to fight off the ongoing border dispute with Andhra Pradesh. Odisha government is engaged in a legal fight with Andhra Pradesh over Kotia border dispute after neighbouring state conducted panchayat election in Kotia, trespassing into Odisha’s territory. In response to a contempt petition filed by the Odisha government, Andhra claimed Kotia to be a part of it.On February 19, the Supreme Court has granted Odisha government a four week time to submit counter affidavit. Accordingly, the government of Odisha is getting ready to source all statutory documents to justify that Kotia belongs to Odisha. In this connection, the advice of Justice Patnaik will be a great help to Odisha government, feel legal fraternity.
