Koraput, Jan17: Members of two Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Koraput are now example for others as they have exported 34 tonnes of potato to Bihar.
The Maa Patakhanda SHG under A Malkangiri gram panchayat and the Maa Devi Nishanimunda SHG under Bulbeda gram panchayat have earned the fame of frontline farmers.
These two groups have showed their interest for potato farming on 50 acres of barren land. The Koraput Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) provided capital assistance for the mission.
As many as 80 women members of the federation worked out their project to yield 34 tonnes of potato. They sold their standard potatoes to a trader in Bihar at Rs 29 per kg.
Besides, they treasured rest of it for homey use. It fetched the two women groups a substantial earn of 9.86 lakhs. Apart from that they are self sufficient to utilise the stored potatoes at the time of utter need, said the groups’ functionaries.
