Bhubaneswar: In view of rise in its water level, the Jalaput Dam in Koraput district opened four gates to release excess water to downstream Machhkund river on Friday morning.
According to reports, the water level in the reservoir was recorded at 2748.60 feet by 6 am this morning. The reservoir was receiving 22,000 cusec water and releasing about 12,000 cusec water by 10 am.
The water level of the reservoir has risen due to incessant rains occurred in the upstream Machhkund in Koraput and Andhra Pradesh.
A few villages in Koraput and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh are likely to be affected due to rain water.
The water level in the reservoir is likely to rise further as very heavy rainfall has been predicted in Koraput in the next 48 hours.
