Iran president questions bizarre secret meeting in dark car

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently found himself in a highly unusual situation while trying to meet with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Reports indicate he was escorted to a secret location in Tehran and placed inside a commercial vehicle with tinted windows. Inside, it was so pitch black that Pezeshkian could not even see the person he was speaking to. Following this strange encounter, the president reportedly questioned if the voice in the dark car actually belonged to the supreme leader.

Tensions in Tehran have reached a boiling point ever since Mojtaba Khamenei succeeded his late father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died in a joint US-Israeli strike this past February. The new supreme leader has stayed out of public view for nearly five months. According to sources from Iran International, Pezeshkian only secured this brief meeting as a reluctant concession. He had to threaten resignation multiple times before Khamenei’s office finally arranged the interaction. Standard protocols were completely ignored, and security guards refused to let the president even shake hands with the man in the car.

Conflicting stories about Tehran talks

Despite finding the dark encounter humiliating, Pezeshkian later painted a very different picture for the public. While speaking to trade association representatives in May, he claimed he spent two and a half hours in a warm and friendly atmosphere with Mojtaba Khamenei. Yet, sources within his own office say his request for a proper follow-up meeting at the leader's official residence was quickly rejected.

Rising political friction and public doubts

Communication between the two leaders remains deeply strained. Pezeshkian briefed that getting in touch with Khamenei is very difficult right now. However, he still defended the supreme leader, insisting their talks were productive and full of kindness and very sound logic. He blamed malicious people for trying to present a false image of the situation. Meanwhile, Israeli media claims Khamenei recently gave Pezeshkian a final ultimatum, backing Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Ahmad Vahidi on critical national security choices. This move leaves the president largely cut off from strategic policymaking.

Questions surround missing supreme leader

Mystery continues to swirl around Mojtaba Khamenei's actual status. He has only released written statements since taking power, which state media anchors read aloud over old photographs. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed in July that he had not seen the supreme leader at all, noting that only a tiny group of people have access to him. Taking things further, former US President Donald Trump had commented that Iran's leaders have been wiped out, specifically claiming that the new supreme leader is "90 per cent gone."
