Bhubaneswar, Mar 28: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has held KIIT University accountable for the tragic death of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepalese student who died by suicide.
The NHRC's investigation revealed that university authorities were negligent, which may have contributed to the student's untimely death. The commission has criticized the University for allegedly failing to address the situation with the seriousness it deserved.
In light of these findings, the NHRC has instructed the Chief Secretary to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) regarding the incident within the next four weeks.
This case refers to the unfortunate death of the engineering student, who was found dead in her hostel room at KIIT in Bhubaneswar on February 16. The NHRC has also ordered an on-site inquiry into the suicide and the subsequent events that transpired on the campus.
