Kidney racket in Odisha is having inter-state link

Bhubaneswar, Jan 22:Kidney trade racket, which is banned in Odisha, is growing into diversified operation day by day to evade the legal web. Himanshu Nanda, who had been arrested recently, has been found to have an inter-state link. As per the organ transplant law prevalent in the state, none other than the near and dear ones of the patient can donate their kidney. Himanshu was apprehended by Nayapalli police on the charge of duping Rs. 10 lakh from a kidney patient of Balasore on the false assurance to arrange a kidney for transplantation. Himanshu has at present been lodged in judicial custody. During interrogation, Himanshu confessed to be indulged in many kidney trade cases. He told the police that he has a number of agents working in different parts of the country. Besides he informed that he has a nexus with some doctors and organ donor coordinators. Mean while, a series of complaints have been lodged in different police stations against Himanshu. Lili Sahu from Nalco Nagar in Angul complained the police against Himanshu. Lili alleged that she had paid Rs. 3.19 lakh to Himashu in lieu of a kidney. Efforts are on to reach the alleged dalal Prasana Sahu, entangled doctors and brokers, said Commissionerate police.
