Bhubaneswar, March 29: Police have filed a case against Durga Prasad Mohanty, the husband of Narla MLA Manorama Mohanty and Chairman of Narla Block in Kalahandi district, over allegations of threatening to kill a local Tehsildar and using abusive language.
The alleged incident took place on March 15 during an official phone conversation. Following this, Tehsildar Bibhu Prasad Singh submitted a written complaint, prompting the registration of a case at Narla Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 296, 221, 224, 351(2), and 351(3).
On Sunday, a police team from Kalahandi visited the MLA’s government residence in Bhubaneswar in connection with the case. The visit led to protests by some BJD leaders, who claimed that the police had attempted to conduct a raid without prior notice.
Responding to the allegations, the Kalahandi Superintendent of Police stated that the officers had only gone to serve a notice and were accompanied by local police personnel. The MLA and her husband were not present at the residence during the police visit.
The investigation is currently in progress, informed police.
