Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) Chairperson Minati Behera along with her team visited the Kalahandi district to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry into the Jaringi gang-rape incident that came to the fore yesterday.
According to reports, the SCW team, on its arrival, visited the Junagarh police station first and inquired about the incident from the police. The team was scheduled to meet the victim and move to the spot in Jaringin jungle where she was sexually assaulted by about five persons.
Notably, the incident of gang-rape had come to the fore after a video of it went viral in social media.
Taking sou motu cognizance of the incident, the Junagarh police registered a case and started investigation.
During preliminary investigation, the police found that the incident had occurred on September 14. However, the girl didn’t reveal her plight to the family or anybody else. The victim’s father knew about the incident after police approached him. Then, the girl narrated the story to the family and the police.
The police said they have identified all the accused persons and they would be arrested soon.
