New Delhi, May 5: Justice Surya Kant, Supreme Court Judge and Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee- SCLSC, on Monday held a review meeting with Chief Justices of High Courts and heads of State Legal Services Authorities to assess progress in a special legal aid campaign for prison inmates launched on January 10, 2025.
So far, over 4,200 inmates have been identified for aid, with more than 3,900 expressing willingness to avail it. Over 800 case files have been received, and aid has begun in about 300 cases.
Justice Kant urged faster submission of pending documents and appointed nodal officers in districts for better coordination. He emphasized the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring justice for all, especially those in prisons. (With Agency Input).
