Junior engineer arrested for taking bribe in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal, Oct 30: Odisha Vigilance has arrested a junior engineer (JE) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe for release of the last instalment under a housing scheme. The JE was allegedly demanding Rs 1500 from a complainant for release of the last instalment of Rs 40,000. The accused has been identified as Rashmiranjan Behera, a junior engineer of Hindol Notified Area Council (NAC) office. According to the report, Rashmiranjan demanded a bribe of Rs 3000 from Shantilata Behera of Saradhapur area in Ward no. 6 of Hindol NAC for the release of the final instalment of money under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Earlier, Manas Behera, son of Shantilata Behera, had paid Rs 1500 to the JE. But he demanded Rs 1500 more to get the work done. Acting on Manas’s complaint, Odisha Vigilance team nabbed the JE while accepting the remaining Rs 1500. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the accused and seized.
