Nuapada, May 24: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Susanta Kumar Sethy, a Junior Engineer with the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department posted in Khariar under the Nuapada R&B Division, on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During simultaneous raids on Sethy’s properties, the Vigilance sleuths unearthed a staggering inventory of unaccounted assets, including:
Three multi-storeyed buildings
One farmhouse
Nine high-value plots
Two luxury cars, including one allegedly benami
Bank and other deposits worth ₹55 lakh
Household items valued at over ₹14 lakh
In a dramatic twist, it was further revealed during the course of the investigation that Sethy had allegedly hidden Rs55 lakh in cash and 1.4 kg of gold at his tenant’s residence in an attempt to dodge detection during the raids. However, the tenant reportedly refused to return the valuables.
Subsequently, Sethy’s spouse filed an FIR (No. 93 dated April 13, 2024) at Dhouli Police Station against the tenant for not returning the same. The matter is currently under investigation by the local police, while Vigilance continues to verify the source of the cash and gold, which is suspected to be ill-gotten wealth.
Odisha Vigilance has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further action will follow based on the evidence gathered.
