J&K: Amarnath Yatra resumes today

11/07/2022 at 10:28 AM

Jammu, July 11: After being suspended for two days, the Amarnath Yatra has been resumed on Monday morning. The yatra was temporarily suspended on Friday, till further notice.

The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board had on Sunday informed that the yatra will resume on Monday from the Nunwan Pahalgam side. The pilgrims are also waiting at the Baltal Base camp for the yatra to recommence.

Expressing his hope of having darshan at the holy cave shrine, one of the pilgrims said “We are filled with energy and will not go back without the ‘darshan’ of Baba. We have full faith in Bhole Baba and are waiting for the darshan of Baba. We are happy that the Yatra has resumed. CRPF and other personnel have guided us to move ahead safely.”

Notably, 16 devotees were killed and several others were injured in a cloudburst near the holy Amarnath cave shrine.

The cloudburst occurred at around 5.30 p.m. on the evening of July 8 near the Amarnath cave shrine. Two langars (community kitchens) and 25 Yatri tents were affected by a large amount of swirling water from the cloudburst.

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Sunday visited a base camp in Pahalgam and met pilgrims.
