Jilted lover kills girlfriend’s brother, hacks father in Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur, Nov 30: Irate after being spurned, a youth allegedly killed his girlfriend’s brother and hacked her father last night at Tarini Chhak under Kaliapani police limits in Jajpur district. The accused has been identified as Santanu Samal. According to sources, Santanu had an extramarital affair with the daughter of the victim Santosh Mohapatra. Family members of the girl were opposing their relationship as Santanu is married. However, Santanu could not tolerate the rejection and attacked the girl’s brother Jitendra and father Santosh while they were at their shop. He attacked Jitendra with a billhook and assaulted Santosh too while he tried to save his son. The father son duo sustained critical injuries following the attack. They were rescued by the locals and rushed to Sukinda Hospital where doctors declared Jitendra dead. Santosh was undergoing treatment and his condition was stated to be critical. After the heinous incident, irate locals set a truck of the accused on fire at Kaliapani and staged a road blockade demanding stringent action against the accused. Being informed, police reached the spot and detained Santanu for further interrogation.
