Jagannath Temple administration to perform Akshay Tritiya, Chandan Yatra tomorrow

Puri, May 14: Jagannath Temple administration will observe auspicious Akshay Tritiya and Chandan Yatra inside the shrine premises on May 15. The auspicious festival that marks the beginning of construction of chariots for Rath Yatra will be celebrated without devotees in view of Covid-19 pandemic. The rituals will be performed by selected priests and servitors but devotees will not be allowed inside the temple premises. The first rituals wil begin in the early morning tomorrow with the opening of the door known as Dwarafita niti by 4am. Followed by various niti or rituals, the sevayats of the Jagannath Temple will perform the Agyan Mala Bije rituals for the three chariots at around 4pm. The deities are ceremonially escorted by a group of temple servitors on decorated 'Bimanas', while the Lord rides a special one called 'Manibimana.' After return of the deities to temple at 10 pm, the other rituals will be performed and completed by 12:30pm.
