New Delhi, Dec 9: E-Commerce Giant Amazon.com has been penalized with a fine of a whopping 2.13 billion Euros (INR 966 crores) by Italy’s Competition Authority, AGCM. According to reports, AGCM took such action against Amazon since the company was abusing its dominant position in the e-commerce market to increase its sales and visibility. For an instance Amazon compelled the sellers to use Amazon’s in-house logistic service to gain access to the ‘prime’ label, which is essential for the sellers to participate in events promoted by amazons and increase their sales. This affected the e-commerce logistic operators as they were unable to provide service to the sellers and do business on the e-commerce platform. The Competitive Authority of Italy has said that such abuse of power by Amazon is not tolerable due to which such a steep fine has been imposed. On top of that AGCM has also demanded amazon to provide access to all the sellers who use third-party services. However, Amazon’s CEO Jef Bezos has not made any remark about the incident.
