ISRO scientist Shibendu Shankar Ray succumbs to Covid-19

Bhubaneswar, May 8: Famous space scientist and Agro-physicist Sibendu Shankar Ray succumbed to Covid-19 in New Delhi on Friday. Shibendu, son of Prof. Sudhansu Sekhar Ray and Shanti Devi, hailing from Bhadrak district was researching in the Space Applications Centre (ISRO) in the field of space based Agro research. Ray worked for more than 20 years in ISRO on Remote Sensing Applications in Agriculture. Recently, he was working as the Director of the Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare. Spectacularly, he led a team of scientists and researchers on agricultural applications including crop forecasting, drought assessment, horticultural assessment and crop intensification that yielded fabulous achievements. Apart from the profession, Ray was involved in social care and book movements in his locality.
