Janmashtami, one of the most significant Hindu festivals, is dedicated to Lord Krishna and marks the celebration of his birth anniversary. Also known as Krishna Janmotsava, the day holds immense religious and spiritual importance in Hinduism.
Observed on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada, the festival is celebrated with grandeur across the country, with devotees engaging in fasting, devotional singing, and enactments of episodes from Krishna’s life.
This year, Krishna Janmashtami will be observed on 16 August 2025.
According to the Hindu Panchang, the Ashtami Tithi will commence at 11:49 PM on 15 August 2025 and conclude at 9:34 PM on 16 August 2025.
Many devotees also chant Krishna mantras to seek divine blessings. Some popular ones include:
1. Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya
2. Om Kleem Krishnaya Namah
3. Krishnaya Vasudevaya Haraye Parmatmane Pranatah Kleshnashaya Govindaya Namo Namah
4. Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Temples and households across India are expected to be adorned with flowers and lights, as devotees prepare to celebrate the festival with devotion, music, and joy.
