Paradip: Miscreants allegedly cut the IOCL pipeline between Nehru Bangala and Atharbanki area in Paradip. The pipeline was found cut and oil spilled from pipeline today.
Now, the oil spill is likely to pollute river Kaudia at Atharbanki. Meanwhile, a team of IOCL officials rushed to the spot and started an operation to resolve the problem, sources said.
The matter came to light after some local found oil floating and suspecting leakage from IOCL pipeline, they informed the IOCL officials, the sources added.
If the leak is not plugged, oil may enter to Kakudia river flowing nearby resulting in the death of fishes.
This is not the first time that oil spill from IOCL has been reported despite deployment of security guards Nehru Bangala and Atharbanki. The four-lane pipelines of IOCL extending up to 15 km from oil berth to Paradip oil refinery pass through isolated places. These pipelines cross a mangrove forest and frequent oil spills have posed a threat to the marine species.
