India to Bolster Batting for Final Test
India is set to make significant changes to its playing XI for the series-deciding final Test against England, opting to strengthen its batting lineup for the crucial match at The Oval. In a key tactical shift, specialist batsman Karun Nair is expected to replace pace all-rounder Shardul Thakur.
The decision to bring in Nair comes after Thakur's lackluster bowling performance in the previous Test. With the series on the line, the team management has prioritised adding depth to the batting order, especially on a pitch that is expected to have a layer of grass. This grassy surface is also the reason why left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav once again misses out on a spot in the team.
New-Look Pace Attack
The pace department will also see a major shuffle. As per the pre-series plan, Jasprit Bumrah will be rested to manage his workload. This gives Mohammed Siraj the opportunity to lead the attack. He will be supported by Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna, who are set to replace Bumrah and the debutant from the last match, Anshul Kamboj.
In another confirmed change, Dhruv Jurel will take over the wicket-keeping duties from the injured Rishabh Pant. The inclusion of both Nair and Sai Sudharsan in the XI raises a question about who will bat at the important No. 3 position. This revamped combination shows India is taking a calculated risk, backing its five bowlers to do the job while adding an extra cushion to its batting in a must-win encounter.
