India’s Omicron case count nears 100: Know details here

New Delhi, Dec 17: The count of Omicron cases in India has neared 100 (97 to be exact) on Friday after the national capital recorded 10 new cases of the new variant. “10 new cases of Omicron variant have been reported in Delhi, taking the total number of cases of the variant here to 20. A total of 10 people, out of these 20, have been discharged,” said health minister Satyendar Jain, confirming the news. A day earlier 14 new Omicron cases were recorded throughout the nation. Out of these, Karnataka reported five new cases of Omicron, while Delhi and Telangana registered four such new infections, and Gujarat reported single case. Till now 11 states have reported cases of the new Covid variant. Maharashtra with 32 cases has been the state with maximum Omicron infections till now. National Capital, Delhi has recorded 20 cases, Rajasthan has reported 17 cases. Karnataka has seen seven such cases while Gujarat and Kerala have five cases each, Telangana reported six cases and one case each has been seen in West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu. India’s first two Omicron cases were reported from Bengaluru on December 2 when two people - a 66-year-old and a 46-year-old male - tested positive for the variant.
