Indian vehicle dealerships celebrate with 2.96 crore unit registrations

Indian automotive dealerships achieved a historic milestone by clocking 2.96 crore vehicle registrations during the 2025-26 financial year. Data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) confirms that every single category, from entry-level scooters to heavy-duty trucks, posted positive growth figures. This surge represents a double-digit increase compared to the previous fiscal, signaling robust consumer confidence and improved rural economic health.

Record breaking performance across segments

Passenger vehicle sales climbed to new heights as SUV demand continued to dominate urban markets. Simultaneously, the two-wheeler segment witnessed a significant revival, moving past the sluggishness seen in post-pandemic years. Improved crop realisations and government infrastructure spending fueled this momentum, particularly in states like Odisha where mining and industrial logistics demand more commercial vehicles.

Electric vehicle momentum and future outlook

Clean energy transition played a functional role in these numbers. Electric vehicle (EV) penetration reached new peaks, supported by expanded charging networks and state-specific incentives. Dealers report that improved semiconductor availability allowed manufacturers to maintain steady supply chains, preventing the long waiting periods that previously hampered retail growth.

Looking ahead, the industry remains optimistic despite potential inflationary pressures. Dealers are focusing on digital transformation to enhance customer experience. This record performance positions India firmly as a global automotive powerhouse, reflecting the country's rising middle-class aspirations and industrial expansion.
