Balipatna, May 15: A tragic incident has been reported from the Turintira area under Balipatna police limits, where a youth allegedly died by suicide after being distressed over his father’s drinking habit.

The deceased has been identified as Shiva Prasad Sahu of Bastadihi village. His father, Raj Kishore Sahu, runs a snack shop at Mahabir Chhak. According to sources, Raj Kishore was addicted to alcohol, which often led to family disputes as Shiva repeatedly urged him to quit drinking.

On Friday, Raj Kishore was allegedly consuming liquor by the roadside near his shop. Shiva, reportedly upset after witnessing the incident, went inside the shop and allegedly hanged himself using a rope.

After locals noticed the incident, they immediately rescued Shiva and rushed him to the Balipatna Community Health Centre. He was later shifted to Capital Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Shiva was known to be a meritorious student and was pursuing +3 third-year Arts at Shishu Ananta Mahavidyalaya. The incident has left the local community in shock.
