Yami Gautam addresses ‘Nationalist Actress’ label ahead of her upcoming film ‘Haq’

Mumbai, Oct 29: Bollywood actress Yami Gautam is all set to appear alongside Emraan Hashmi in the upcoming film Haq, which revolves around the sensitive issue of triple talaq. Known for choosing socially relevant subjects in her films, Yami has recently been described by some as a “nationalist actress.”

When asked about the label during the trailer launch of Haq, Yami dismissed the idea of taking such tags seriously. “I didn’t even know about it,” she said. “People give you one tag today and another tomorrow. Earlier, I was called underrated. Before that, something else. These things keep changing. I don’t pay attention to them. I focus on the stories I believe have importance and relevance. Through entertainment, we try to present something fresh that connects with all kinds of audiences.”

Despite her indifference to such labels, Yami expressed gratitude toward the audience for their perception and support.

Directed by Suparn S. Verma, Haq draws inspiration from the landmark 1985 Shah Bano vs. Mohammad Ahmed Khan case. The film also stars Vartika Singh, Danish Hussain, and Shibaa Chaddha, and is scheduled to hit theaters on November 7.
