Vijay-led TVK Intensify Campaign in North Chennai; Aadhav Arjuna Defends Independent Contest

Chennai, March 22: The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has ramped up its election campaign in North Chennai with the opening of its RK Nagar constituency office, followed by a key policy meeting where party leaders outlined both their developmental agenda and ideological stance. The election office, located in Tondiarpet, was inaugurated by Aadhav Arjuna, TVK's Election Campaign Management General Secretary. The event also featured a policy discussion attended by prominent figures, including Nanjil Sampath.

During his address, Arjuna strongly defended TVK’s decision to contest the upcoming elections independently under the leadership of actor Vijay, emphasizing that this choice was rooted in ideology, not political necessity. “Vijay had numerous opportunities to join alliances and received offers from several quarters. Some have suggested that he couldn’t form alliances—but if he had wanted, he easily could have,” Arjuna asserted. He further highlighted that high-profile political support was available, provided Vijay was willing to compromise on his principles. "Had he been willing to abandon secular values, even Delhi was prepared to project him as a potential Chief Minister. But he turned all that down," Arjuna stated.

The TVK leader reiterated that the party’s commitment to the values of social reformers Periyar EV Ramasamy and Dr. BR Ambedkar was non-negotiable. "For us, these aren’t mere symbolic gestures. They are the core values that guide our politics. Only in TVK offices can you find statues of Periyar and Ambedkar together—something not even at Anna Arivalayam," Arjuna remarked, indirectly critiquing the DMK.

Earlier, RK Nagar constituency in-charge Maria Wilson addressed the longstanding developmental challenges faced by residents, noting decades of governmental neglect in the region. He shared the party's vision to improve local education and professional opportunities, aiming to produce more IAS, IPS officers, and other professionals from the constituency over the next 15 years. Wilson also highlighted TVK's welfare initiatives, such as prioritizing marriage assistance for women, including single mothers and those with disabilities, and organizing Hajj pilgrimages for selected residents.

Aadhav Arjuna also took the opportunity to criticise the persistent underdevelopment of North Chennai compared to areas like Anna Nagar, lamenting the failure of successive governments to address economic inequalities. He also accused rival parties of spreading misinformation in their campaigns and positioned TVK as a strong, independent political force in Tamil Nadu. "Regardless of any alliances formed by other parties, TVK is confident of emerging victorious on its own merit," Arjuna asserted.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from TVK's supporters and functionaries, signaling an intensifying grassroots mobilization as the party prepares for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
