Vigilance uncovers massive assets linked to Forest Officer in Bhawanipatna

Bhawanipatna, Feb 20: During ongoing searches linked to Bhagbat Bhusan Behera, Forester of the Bhatangpadar Forest Section under Bhawanipatna Forest Range, authorities have uncovered a significant cache of assets.

So far, investigators have seized:

  • One triple-storeyed building at Hill Town, Bhawanipatna, constructed between 2022–24.
  • Nine plots in and around Bhawanipatna, including plots at Duarsuni, Gandabandhupola, and Jamuna Sagar.
  • Gold ornaments totaling approximately 210 grams.
  • Vehicles and machinery, including one Toyota Urban Cruiser, one Bolero, two Kubota harvester machines, and four tractors.
  • Bank deposits, postal savings, and other investments are under verification. A locker in the name of Behera at the Central Bank of India, Bhawanipatna branch, is yet to be opened.

Behera joined government service as a Forest Guard on 20 August 2000 with an initial salary of Rs3,000. The Vigilance Technical Wing is currently measuring and assessing the building and plots, while searches continue.

Authorities are yet to complete the full investigation, and further updates are expected.
