Bhubaneswar hosts US delegation to spark billion-dollar industrial growth.
Odisha’s industrial landscape is set for a significant shift as the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ltd (UCCIL) partnered with a high-level American delegation to explore high-tech investments. Led by U.S. Consul General Laura Williams, the meeting at Hotel Trident focused on integrating Odisha into the global supply chain for semiconductors and artificial intelligence. This engagement coincides with the 250th anniversary of American independence, signaling a renewed era of bilateral cooperation.
Roadmap to a 1.5 Trillion Dollar Economy UCCIL President Dr. Prabodh Mohanty detailed an ambitious "Viksit Odisha" blueprint aimed at reaching a $500 billion valuation by 2036 and $1.5 trillion by 2047. Currently contributing 3% to India's GDP, the state aims to climb to 5% by leveraging its vast natural wealth and nascent tech sectors. Historically, Odisha has transitioned from a mineral-dependent economy to an emerging IT hub, making it a fertile ground for the strategic interests of the United States.
Strategic Technology and the TRUST Initiative Consul General Williams introduced the "TRUST" framework - Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology which prioritises collaboration in space exploration, biotechnology, and AI. She acknowledged the state's progress in critical minerals and IT infrastructure after consulting with senior provincial officials. To solidify these bonds, UCCIL plans to send a specialized delegation to the United States soon to scout for reciprocal trade opportunities.
