Nabarangpur, May 17: Two women died on the spot and three critically injured when a speeding truck collided head-on with a car near Rajamatu Chhak under Papadahandi block of Nabarangpur district on Saturday night.

The accident took place when the pipe-laden trawler truck, travelling from Nabarangpur towards Kalahandi, collided with the car returning to Nabarangpur from Puri.

The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled. The car was transporting five persons of a family. On receiving information, Papadahandi police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations.

Police first admitted all the injured to Papadahandi hospital. The injured were later shifted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital.

Police began an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.
