
Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: Two fresh low-pressure areas are likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and one of them may intensify into a depression, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.
The weather department said that the first system is expected to form over the northern Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours, while the second system is likely to develop over the east-central Bay around September 25. The second system may intensify into a depression and impact the weather across several parts of Odisha.
In its midday bulletin, the IMD issued a Yellow Warning for September 22, predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, along with gusty surface winds (30–40 kmph), at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, and Ganjam districts.
Similar weather conditions are expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts on the same day.
An Orange Warning has been issued for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts on September 23, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at some locations. A Yellow Warning is in effect for Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur districts.
The IMD also forecasted that heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, may continue at isolated places across Odisha until September 27, with Yellow Warnings issued for several districts each day.
