Dehradun, July 19: Manvi, a resident of Uttarakhand, got her head shaved in protest against the felling of nearly 4,000 trees for the Dehradun-Rishikesh highway project.

Manvi, an environment lover openly opposed the massive tree felling and demanded that the government must stop it.

After the video featuring her tonsure went viral, a large number of people also joined the protest demonstrations for the good cause.

Amid the growing opposition, the Uttarakhand government has temporarily halted the tree felling and stated that it will seek a resolution through dialogue.

Public resistance is gathered strength in Uttarakhand again as authorities plan to fell 4,369 trees in the ‘Saat Mod’ area of Dehradun district as part of the Bhaniawala-Jolly Grant-Rishikesh four-/six-lane project. Of these, 754 trees are scheduled to be transplanted, while 3,605 are feared to be perished for good, hampering the lush greenery of the habitat.
