Three months into academic session, OAV students yet to receive new NCERT textbooks in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 29: The beginning of a new academic session is usually marked by fresh notebooks and new textbooks. This year, however, that rhythm has been disrupted. Even three months after the commencement of the new academic session, Class-IX students of the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) are yet to receive their new NCERT textbooks, leaving students and parents worried over the delay.

Across schools, the delayed availability of revised NCERT textbooks for the 2026-27 academic session has created a moment of uncertainty.

The absence of textbooks has disrupted classroom learning, with students struggling to keep pace with the curriculum. Guardians have also expressed concern over the uncertainty, as the delay is affecting the academic progress of their children.

The issue has assumed significance as, under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, CBSE-affiliated schools have begun adopting the revised National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks. Since Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas are affiliated with the CBSE, Class IX students are required to study the new NCERT syllabus from the current academic year.

The State has 320 Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas. As many as 23,858 students, including 14,458 boys are pursing studies in Class-IX in these schools.

The Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (OAVS) provides free quality education to the students in CBSE affiliated Schools, especially from semi-urban and rural areas, across the State

The Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya aims to promote the rural talents by inculcating the 21st century learning skills through a holistic and integral approach for their physical and aesthetic development, apart from academic fineness. This co-ed School is established at the Block Headquarter in all the 314 blocks of Odisha, at Secondary and Senior Secondary level from Classes VI to XII.

The current academic session started on April 2. As per provision, the State Government should purchase the textbooks from NCERT and ensure that it reaches the concerned schools before the session starts.

Notably, NCERT has brought out a new set of Class-IX textbooks based on the National Education Policy 2020 this year.
