Rairangpur, June 27: Three labourers were killed in a tragic road accident after the motorcycle they were riding fell into a nearly 150-foot-deep ditch in the Gorumahisani police station area of Odisha's Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, the three men had travelled to Goradapani village under Gorumahisani police limits on Thursday morning to work at a wedding function. After completing the tent decoration work, they were returning home on a motorcycle late at night when they reportedly lost control while descending a hill. The bike plunged into a deep ditch, killing all three on the spot.
The accident came to light on Friday afternoon when cattle grazers noticed the bodies in the gorge and informed local villagers. The villagers reached the spot, identified the deceased and alerted the police.
The deceased have been identified as Manaj Mundari (30) and Manaj Mundi (30), both residents of Sanjhari village under Sudarshanpur, and Birsingh Munda (30) of Dudhichua village.
Police reached the accident site in the evening and recovered the bodies during the night. The bodies were later sent to the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination.
An unnatural death case has been registered at Gorumahisani Police Station, and an investigation has been launched. The post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on Saturday.
