Cuttack, April 4: In a major breakthrough, the Cuttack Commissionerate Police’s Special Squad arrested notorious criminal Raja Sahani from Rishikesh after months of evading capture. Sahani, who had escaped from Choudwar Jail on October 3 last year, was on the run for nearly six months.
Police tracked him down using a photograph taken after he was spotted in Rishikesh. The image was sent to the Cuttack DCP and Special Squad, who confirmed his identity. Matching his appearance and clothing, the team launched a chase operation and successfully apprehended him.
Sources said Sahani’s visit to Uttarakhand with his girlfriend ultimately led to his arrest. He had reportedly travelled to Rishikesh at her insistence, and her phone activity helped police trace his location, ending his prolonged hide-and-seek with law enforcement.
Following his arrest, Sahani was brought to Cuttack and lodged in Choudwar Jail under tight security. He has been placed in a high-security cell with 24-hour surveillance, and three warders have been deployed to monitor his movements.
To prevent another escape, strict measures have been put in place, including installation of multiple CCTV cameras inside and around the cell. Jail authorities have also decided to seek court permission to shackle him.
Officials said Sahani will be kept under constant watch, and no visitors will be allowed inside his cell as part of enhanced security arrangements.
