Similipal National Park to close for tourists from June 29 during monsoon

Baripada, June 23: The Similipal Tiger Reserve authorities have announced the closure of Similipal National Park for tourists and visitors from June 29 in view of the monsoon season and safety concerns.

According to a notification issued by the Office of the Director, Similipal Tiger Reserve, tourist entry through Kaliani Gate in Jashipur and Pithabata Gate near Baripada will remain suspended until further notice. However, the Talabandh and Jamuani Eco-Tourism Complexes will continue to remain open for visitors.

The authorities said the decision has been taken as heavy rainfall during the monsoon makes the forest’s kutcha roads muddy and slippery. In addition, rainwater flowing down from the hills often damages roads and creates hazardous conditions, posing risks to tourists.

Field Director of Similipal Tiger Reserve and Regional Chief Conservator of Forests, Baripada Circle, Dr. Prakash Chandra Gogineni, said that the date for reopening the national park after the monsoon season will be announced later based on weather conditions and road safety assessments.

Notably, Similipal was reopened to tourists on October 18, 2025. As per the annual practice, the national park remains closed during the rainy season every year. This year, the closure will come into effect from June 29, the notification stated.
