Russia Pledges to Support Iranian Interests During Putin and Araghchi Meeting

Russian President pledges total support for Iranian regional interests.

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed on Monday that Moscow remains dedicated to protecting Iranian interests while working to restore peace across West Asia. Speaking directly with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library in St. Petersburg, Putin signaled a deepening of ties during what he described as a difficult period for the Islamic Republic.

Recent military escalations involving U.S. and Israeli strikes have pushed the Moscow-Tehran axis into a tighter embrace. Putin stated that Russia intends to do everything possible to serve the interests of the Iranian people and the wider region. This diplomatic outreach follows Araghchi’s recent visits to Pakistan and Oman, suggesting a coordinated effort to build a regional shield against Western pressure.

Security and Regional Stability

Moscow has previously suggested mediating the current conflict and even offered to store Iran’s enriched uranium to de-escalate nuclear tensions. During this meeting, Putin noted he received a specific message from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, further solidifying the high-level nature of these talks. Araghchi responded by noting that the resistance of the Iranian people has proven their strength against external aggression.

Historically, Russia and Iran have shared a complex but increasingly symbiotic relationship, particularly in bypassing Western sanctions. Both leaders reiterated that their bilateral relationship is a strategic partnership that will continue to strengthen. Putin expressed hope that peace would prevail soon, while Araghchi emphasized that Tehran and Moscow see eye-to-eye on most international security issues
